What does a website cost in Mumbai in 2026? A ₹55,000 business site price tag and the yearly costs: domain renewal, hosting, business email, updates and backups

Ask three Mumbai web designers what a website costs and you can get three answers that are ten times apart. Price guides published by Mumbai agencies this year put a basic business website anywhere from ₹8,000 to ₹50,000, and a custom one at up to ₹2 lakh. Both ends can be honest. They are just not the same product.

I build websites for shops, clinics and small businesses in Mumbai, and I publish my prices. This guide covers what a website really costs in Mumbai in 2026: the going rates, what you get at each level, the bills that arrive every year after launch, GST, and the questions that protect you before you pay anyone, including me.

Website design cost in Mumbai at a glance (2026)

I went through 16 price guides that Mumbai and Indian agencies published in 2025–26. They don't agree on much, but the ranges below are where most of them overlap. All prices are one-time. Most guides don't say whether GST is included, so ask. Typical build times are further down.

Type of website

What you usually get

Typical price

Landing page

One page, one offer, an enquiry form

₹5,000–₹15,000

Basic business site, template

3–5 pages on a ready-made theme

₹8,000–₹30,000

Business site from a Mumbai studio

5–10 pages, some design work, basic SEO

₹15,000–₹50,000

Custom-designed business site

Designed for your brand, written for your customers

₹40,000–₹2,00,000

Online store on a template

Shopify or WooCommerce, up to about 100 products

₹25,000–₹80,000

Online store, mid-range or custom

Bigger catalogue, filters, custom checkout or integrations

₹75,000–₹3,00,000

Premium agencies quote ₹2.5 lakh and up for corporate sites. If a quote is far outside these ranges in either direction, ask what's different.

Why one website costs ₹10,000 and another ₹1 lakh

The price is mostly time, and these are the things that take time:

  • Template or custom design. A premium WordPress theme costs ₹3,000–₹7,000. Below about ₹25,000, most sites are a theme with your logo, colours and photos swapped in. That's fine for a lot of businesses, as long as you know that's what you're buying.

  • Words. Someone has to write every page so that customers understand it and Google can match it to searches. If you write it yourself, the site costs less. If the designer writes it, it costs more, and it's usually better.

  • Features. Booking, online ordering, payments, a product catalogue, or pages in Hindi, Marathi or Gujarati as well as English each add work.

  • Products. An online store with 30 products and one with 300 are different projects, mainly because of photos, descriptions and filters.

  • Who builds it. Freelancer projects mostly run ₹10,000–₹80,000. Agency projects mostly run ₹50,000–₹3 lakh, because you're also paying for a team and an office.

  • Deadline. One guide says rush projects can cost 30–50% more. Planning a month ahead saves real money.

What a website costs with me

Here are my prices, the same ones on my pricing page. Each is a fixed price, agreed after a free audit and before I start.

U Scale website prices in Mumbai 2026: landing page ₹25,000, portfolio site ₹40,000, business site 3–4 pages ₹55,000, 5–10 pages with blog ₹85,000, restaurant site with ordering ₹90,000, e-commerce under 50 products ₹95,000, 50–500 products from ₹1,50,000
Fixed prices, agreed before work starts. Redesigns are 70% of a new build.

Every site includes mobile-friendly design, enquiry forms, basic SEO, your Google Maps location, social links and a 15–30 day bug-fix window after launch, with 2–3 rounds of changes. You pay 20% to start, 20% when you approve the design and 60% at launch. Copywriting (₹2,000 a page), photography, premium plugins and payment-gateway fees are quoted separately, always before I start.

I'm not the cheapest option in Mumbai, and I'm not trying to be. If you need a one-page site for a few thousand rupees, a template builder or a low-cost freelancer is a fair choice. What the extra pays for with me is a site designed for your business, built to load fast on a phone and set up with basic SEO so Google can find it.

The yearly costs nobody puts in the quote

A website isn't a one-time bill. These costs come every year, whoever builds your site. All prices are from the providers' own pages on 21 October 2026. Hostinger, Bluehost and Razorpay prices are before 18% GST; GoDaddy and Shopify don't say.

Hosting offer price versus renewal price per year in India: Hostinger Single ₹828 then ₹3,468, Hostinger Premium ₹1,668 then ₹5,388, Bluehost Starter ₹2,388 then ₹4,188; .in domain ₹1 then ₹899 a year, .com ₹1 then ₹1,499 a year
The offer is real, but it needs a multi-year purchase, and hosting renews at up to four times the offer price.

Cost

Offer price

At renewal

.in domain

₹1, with a 3-year purchase

₹899 a year (Hostinger, GoDaddy)

.com domain

₹1, with a 3-year purchase

₹1,499–₹1,599 a year

Shared hosting

₹69–₹199 a month, paying 3–4 years upfront

₹289–₹649 a month at renewal (Hostinger)

SSL (the padlock)

Free

Free, from Let's Encrypt or your host

Business email

Free on Zoho Mail for up to 5 users

Paid plans if you need more storage or users

Online store platform

Shopify Basic ₹1,499 a month, billed yearly

Same (Shopify India)

Payment gateway

Razorpay 2% per payment, plus GST on the fee

Same (Razorpay)

For a typical small site on a mid-level hosting plan, that means about ₹7,400 a year once the offers end, including GST: ₹899 for a .in domain from year two, plus ₹5,388 for hosting once the 3–4 year offer term ends, plus 18%. Keeping the site updated, backed up and secure is extra if you don't do it yourself. My care plan for that is ₹3,500 a month.

GST on a website: 18%, but not always

  • Agencies add 18%. Website design is taxed at 18% GST. A registered agency adds it to your bill, so a ₹40,000 quote becomes ₹47,200.

  • Small freelancers may not charge GST at all. In Maharashtra and most states, a service provider has to register once turnover crosses ₹20 lakh a year (CGST Act, section 22), and someone who isn't registered isn't allowed to collect GST. If a freelancer adds GST, ask for their GSTIN.

  • Your business may get it back. If you're GST-registered, ask your CA whether you can claim the GST on your website as input tax credit.

Always ask one question: "Is this price including or excluding GST?" Of the 16 price guides I checked, only one added GST to its prices.

Freelancer, agency or do it yourself?

Option

Typical cost

Good for

Watch out for

Do it yourself (Wix, Shopify, WordPress)

A monthly plan, plus your time

Testing an idea on a tiny budget

Hours of your time; a template look; fees on every sale

Freelancer

₹10,000–₹80,000

Simple sites with a clear brief

Who fixes things after launch, and who holds the logins

Agency

₹50,000–₹3,00,000

Large sites with ongoing marketing

Agency prices also cover a team and an office

I sit between the last two. I'm one person, so I do the work myself, with an agency's process: written scope, fixed price, design approval before build.

6 red flags before you pay anyone

  1. The domain is in their name or email. Indian legal-advice sites have questions from owners asking how to get their domain back from a developer who won't transfer it. Register the domain in your business's name, with your email, and keep the registrar login.

  2. No admin login. Owners describe fully paid sites where the developer then asked for more money to hand over the account. Get the website admin login and the hosting login at launch, in writing.

  3. A yearly "maintenance" fee you never agreed to. A maintenance contract should list exactly what's included (updates, backups, small edits) and end when you choose.

  4. No renewal price. Ask what hosting and the domain will cost once any offer ends, and which company hosts the site, so you can check the host's renewal price yourself.

  5. A template sold as "custom design". At ₹10,000 it's almost always a theme, which is fine if they say so. Ask for the theme's name.

  6. No written scope. Pages, rounds of changes, who writes the text, timelines and what costs extra should all be on paper before you pay the advance.

8 questions to ask before you sign

  1. Is the price including or excluding GST?

  2. Whose name and email will the domain be registered in?

  3. Will I get the admin login and hosting login at launch?

  4. What will hosting and the domain cost each year once any offer ends?

  5. Who writes the text and who supplies the photos?

  6. How many rounds of changes are included?

  7. What's covered after launch, for how long, and what do edits cost after that?

  8. Is the design custom or a theme, and if it's a theme, which one?

How long does a website take?

A landing page takes 3–7 days. A basic business site takes 1–4 weeks, a custom-designed one 3–8 weeks, and an online store 4–12 weeks depending on the number of products. A site from me usually takes 4–8 weeks, because the design is made for your business. In my experience, the biggest delay is almost never the build. It's waiting for the photos, the prices and the text. Have those ready and any honest designer can move faster.

A website also works best with a strong Google listing behind it. If customers can't find you on Maps yet, start with my guide to why a business doesn't show on Google Maps.

Frequently asked questions

A basic business website in Mumbai costs about ₹8,000–₹30,000 on a ready-made template, or ₹15,000–₹50,000 from a Mumbai studio. A custom-designed one costs ₹40,000–₹2 lakh, and an online store ₹25,000–₹3 lakh. Most price guides don't say whether GST is included, so ask. At U Scale, a landing page is ₹25,000, a 3–4 page business site ₹55,000 and an online store with under 50 products ₹95,000.

Budget about ₹4,400–₹9,400 a year before GST for the domain and hosting once the introductory offers end. A .in domain renews at about ₹899 a year and shared hosting at about ₹289–₹649 a month. SSL is free. Updates and backups cost extra if someone does them for you.

Website design is taxed at 18% GST when the designer is GST-registered. In Maharashtra and most states, freelancers only have to register once their turnover crosses ₹20 lakh a year, and an unregistered freelancer can’t charge GST. Always ask whether a quote includes GST.

Yes. Register the domain in your business’s name with your own email, and keep the registrar login, the hosting login and the website admin login. Without them you can’t move or fix your site if the designer disappears.

Cheaper sites are usually a ready-made theme with your logo and photos added. Higher prices pay for custom design, written content, features such as booking or payments, more products, SEO groundwork and support after launch. Ask what’s included before comparing prices.
